Typeface ART

*No progress was saved on Day Two, due to issues with my flash drive.
Typeface ART - Day One
Typeface ART - Day Three
Typeface ART - Day Four (Last)

We were expected to produce an 8.5x11 typeface in Adobe Illustrator. We had to create an object or animal using only type, and consisting of only the letters in that object or animal. As you can see, I chose to do a monitor. My final product was a red monitor with the desktop showing. The desktop consists of the Windows symbol, a task bar, a cursor, the start menu button, and the icon for a recycling bin. To create the shape of the monitor, I used repetition to make copies of the letters, and I used colors to add contrast to the image. I would say that the outline of my monitor accurately represents my sketch, but as far as the detail (recycling bin icon, start button, volume button, task bar, etc.) was not included in my sketch.

Typeface Project

Cool Colors: from Middle name, April.
Monochromatic: from First name, Kitiya.
Freestyle: from Last name, Kitburi.

We were expected to produce three 8.5x11 typefaces in adobe photoshop. To me, this project was somewhat difficult because I don't like working in typography and I felt that my sketches needed a little work. For my final product, I produced a Monochromatic typeface consisting of my first name, a cool-color typeface with my middle name, and a freestyle typeface consisting of my last name. For my monochromatic, I used the different hues of orange and threw in some brown to try and add contrast. In my cool colored document, I chose my middle name because I associated "April" with Spring, which is usually a cool and calm season. I also chose that particular font because it looked like the letters were blowing in the wind. For my freestyle, I attempted to make a tree out of my last name. I would say that two out three of my projects resemble my sketches accurately; My freestyle project didn't turn out well when i tried to recreate it, so I ended up experimenting and, in the end, created a tree.

Banner Project

Banner I designed for the Christine M. Sykes College & Career Center

To me, this assignment was a little difficult, but only because this was my first time doing a project in over two months. We were required to create a banner for the Christine M. Sykes College and Career Center at Oxon Hill High, using either Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. We had three days to complete this assignment. Unlike most of my peers, I chose to use Adobe illustrator because I felt that it was easier for me. My final product was a light blue banner with a black and gold border. For the gold border, I used a gradient to imitate the color and shine of a gold template. For the background, I used an image of "silhouettes of graduates" and made multiple copies (repetition) and lowered the opacity to about 50%, so that it would not interfere with any other images. I would say that my final project does accurately represent my sketch because I didn't really have any second ideas as to how my banner would look like, so I basically depended on my sketch for the entire project.
